Lavender turquoise or Kazakhstan turquoise has not been around long. It was discovered in the Golden Hills mine in Kazakhstan in 2013 and was introduced to the US market in 2018. Its unique light, baby blue colors, contrasted with its brownish to reddish to, “lavender-like” matrixes make this variety one of the most-sought after turquoise gems in the world.
Not only are they rare in supply, but they are also hard to get. Despite freezing temperatures, this gem is only mined during the winter months. Flooding and other harsh conditions prohibit the mining of these gems during the summer.
