BEHIND THE DETAILS
Origin: Azurite geode: Ural Mountains of Russia
Found in the mountains of Russia, an abundant copper supply gives the azurite geode its rich cobalt blue color. Most colored stone mines are small-scale and they operate in remote areas. The mines were these specimens are from are nearly depleted with only a few kilos left to dig through from the mines, making this gem rare and special.
HOW DO GEODES FORM?
As lava is rapidly brought to the surface, the changes in pressure expands the gasses in the hot rocks creating pockets within them as it solidifies. Then, as mineral rich waters pass through these cavities, they may leave some of the minerals behind, forming a geode.
